i got a 197 this year on the PSAT (i'm in 10th grade) the results just came in and my sub-scores are: 61 in CR, 70 in Math, and 66 in Writing. how do i improve my score?

study a lot. get PSAT books and do practice tests.
I got a 233 this year (as a sophomore).
Next year i'm going to have to study like crazy ...

Improving your PSAT score is not tremendously important to your future (although exceptional scores will make you eligible for a very prestigious NMSQT scholarship). The purpose of the PSAT, however, is to give you a glimpse into the SAT. The SAT (and it's cousin the ACT) is the one that will decide what schools you will attend, so that's the score you need to raise.
Start by reading authors who use good vocabulary - Anne McCaffrey and Arthur Conan Doyle are great. This will help you a bit with reading, and will also help with some of the grammar questions.
Next, check out a full-length practice test - you can take a free one at your local Kaplan center.
You can also improve your score by learning more about how the SAT is scored and what's important on the essay - there are free Kaplan seminars to help you with that, too.
Finally, if your practice test results are not where you want them to be, consider getting some help from a book, a class, or even a private tutor.
