The instinct to pair off and mate may be considered rational, however, the emotional vortex that is "love" could hardly be considered a rational choice. Love makes us do irrational things, but maybe to a very rational end. I mean, true love, love where the person you are in love with accepts you totally for who you are, love where you can fight and then make up, love where you truly care about your partner's well being as much as you own, true love where you love yourself and you partner feel the same, is one of the greatest experiences a human can attain. So is it not irrational not to fall in love?

Odd Q, but I'll offer my thoughts. First of all LOVE is an irrational emotion. Can it possibly be said to be a victory?
Certainly many might say that for them "love" was/is an unequal balance of pain over joy, and vice versa

Love has never been victorious, since true love is unconditional and 'non-asking' for a return..
Emotions and rationale are just the two aspects of the mind, and mind has nothing to do with love !

Love and love?
The Greek Bible distinguishes eros, emotional/physical love and agape, spiritual love.
Eros is much involved with self, agape rose above self and loves all beings unconditionally.
Much agape!
