I have recurring dreams of a lot of water and me drowning. Whether it's a "lake" in a single room or an ocean, I have these recurring dreams. Once, I had a dream where I fell off a waterfall and was in a swirling circle of water, went down with it, and actually woke up gasping for air! Anyone have any ideas on the meaning of these dreams? I never was afraid of water until recently.

I am a believer that dreams are sometimes flash backs of a previous life. It is possible that you drowned in a previous life. And it could be that you are approaching the age in that life when you died. Souls retain memories of your past lives and perhaps these fears and memories are surfacing in your subconcious.

It is possible to work through these through past life regression therapy.

Of course, the dream could be purely symbolic of your life flowing out of your control and you are afraid of being consumed by it.

Water is frequently symbolic of emotions. Perhaps you are emotionally overwhelmed by something in your life, or feel embroiled in something swirling around you? A new job, a new residence, new relationships, trying to balance too many things in life? If you can consciously pinpoint what it is that is making you feel overwhelmed, perhaps you can creatively visualize floating peacefully in the water on a sunny day, face up, flowing with the situation, and in control.

depends on if the water is murky or clear, blue or dark. generally, water dreams of drowning typically mean your subconcious is telling you that you have more work than you can handle and are falling behind and cant catch up or you have much debt that you cant pay.
