I need some algebra help please.

The directions say 'write an equation of the line that passes throught the point and has the given slope. write the equation in slope-intercept form.'

and the problem says:

(1,4), m=3

Can someone please explain to me how to solve this?

Thank you!

the equation of a line is

y=mx+b

m is the slope of the line
b is the y intercept
y is the point on the y axis
x is the point on the x axis

a point on a grid would be written (x,y) or in this case (1,4)

4=3(1)+B
4=3+B
1=b

Therefore...

y=3x+1

either of those work
but for the person above me..
that from is called point-slope form not slope intercept..that would be the first way of y=mx+b

first plug in the x, y

y=mx + b
4=3 * 1 + b
4=3+b
4-3 = 3-3 +b
b=1

sooo....

y= 3x + 1

slopeintercept form is
y-y1 = m(x-x1)
thus the y term and the x term are just plug ins.
y-4=3(x-1)
