I was going to start an avocado-tree field, so I bought 200 lbs of avocados, took the seeds out, and planted them, but it's been over 27 days now...nothing has sprouted???

when I eat an avocado , I throw the seed out the back door, there are many little avocado trees coming up. Avocado seeds need light to germinate, and they take several years to produce. They also need a male and a female to make avocadoes. You need to do more research, and keep your day job !

If you planted them in the ground, what's the temperature like? If it's too cold they won't germinate, if you watered them too much they'll rot, if you water them too little they'll likely die. Also, if the avocados were old the seeds may no longer have been viable. Generally the seeds would be grown in a greenhouse with bottom heat (avocados are tropical plants), and then a variety would be grafted onto them and they would then be planted after the graft took.

On another note, even if the avocados did germinate, you would probably need to graft on a variety (such as Hass, Fuerte, Reed, etc.) in order to actually get reliably good fruit. Otherwise it would be a gamble as to whether the fruit would be good or not.

Many people start avocados suspended in a dish of water. Not to sound harsh, but maybe you should research your plans a little before making an investment. Where do you find 200 lbs. of avocados anyway?

You should have left the avacado whole in order to start the seed. Immulate nature; fruit falls to the ground, meat begins to decompose, seed sprouts. That's why they root in water.

They still may come up. Keep them watered (surface watering) once sprouted, deep water.

stick three matches into the pip and put it on a glass of water so just one third of pip is in the water, matches hold it from falling into the glass. then place it on window cill where it is warm with some sunlight, it will then grow. when it has a good stem and roots you can plant outside. dig old bits of steel with it into the ground.

make sure that the avocado fruit is very ripe.. i mean saggy and all.. Also, you should test your soil for its nutrient. Sometimes tree do require specific nutrient for them to grow.

It can be done, but as someone else commented they are started in water first. Once roots are seen they are planted.

They need a certain amount of sunlight, water, herbicide and nutrients. These are essential to their growth. Do you have all of these elements?

because regular produce is genetically modified so you cannot copy their produce. you have to buy an organic avacado, because they have not been modified...or else they wouldn't be organic. i tried this too, with diff produce until someone told me.
