It's much bigger than most people realize!!! Just because you've only known of one person that was trans doesn't mean you haven't known or met countless others who are trans.
I'm not trans, but my fiance is, female to male. He's on hormones, starting surgeries this year.

I realized that I was trans at 12. Because of my parents I couldn't start to transition until I was 19 1/2. I'm still pre-op unfortunately. As for the numbers, there aren't any numbers. I did meet a transgendered individual that was doing some research on the trans community. Some more accurate numbers might be out in a few years. The two most common numbers quoted are 1 in 37,000 people born male. The other is something like 1 in 500 or 1 in 2500. Both have some problems with the research that make them unreliable.

on an identical time as we prevented Jews from coming to the U. S. ideal in the past and into WW II, we've consistently had Jewish immigrants, particularly whilst the Russian pogroms began in the late Eighteen Nineties. there have been even Jewish investors in the unique New Amsterdam (ny)! Many shows including Seinfeld ensue in ny city, that's the place the prevalent public of Jews in the U. S. stay (NYC metro it relatively is). At one time there replaced right into a rich Jewish social existence which incorporate Yiddish theater, on the decrease East edge, the place many new immigrants began. Jews are turning out to be an fundamental lpart of the textile in the ny area, and incorporate the vast majority of philanthropic giving. England kicked out the Jews in the late 1300s and could have been a good extra advantageous united states of america in the process the Golden Age had they no longer performed so.

i am a male to female transsexual, and the Transgendered community is very huge, there are tons of closet crossdressers out there, Ive never had any surgery but do plan on FFS and SRS, hence i am a pre op TS and have been on hormones since i was 16. I myself started crossdressing when i was in diapers, and I'm very serious, i have a picture on the wall here with me in my moms pink 3 inch sling backs.

I'm an FtM (female-to-male) transsexual.
I'd say that there are more trans people than you think exist.
I don't know about 'community' and I think that term is misused in relation to trans people. Lots of us don't spend a lot of time with other transsexuals after we transition... we're just normal people with an unusual history. It's a bit easier for FtMs to disappear into the woodwork than it is for MtFs. But that's a different question.
I transitioned when I was 24.

I'm pre-op mtf, tho I'll agree that we're not a large 'community.' Those who (know they) can pass really well have a strong tendency to cut their ties to said community - just makes it easier to be accepted for who they are.
When did I start crossdressing? Well... depending on how you define it, it was either when I was about 8 or when my parents first put clothes on me instead of letting me run around in just a diaper :p
Currently 25, still in the process of transition and RLT so surgery isn't even scheduled yet :(

It is larger in big cities. They are more accepted there. I have known many beautiful drag queens and also those who have had the full operations. They still hang out with gay guys, that always puzzled me. IF they are truely a woman trapped in a man's body, why do they want to only be around gays?
Although some fit into the straight world very nicely. If you have to, go for it.
I must say this though at the risk of being hated, there are those who think that it is a form of demonic possession.
