It looks just like a phone cord connector that had too much turkey for Thanksgiving dinner; the cable is slightly thicker and the plug is about 15% bigger. It is considered RJ45

I was going to say exactly what the person above said. Sometimes the cord is a tiny bit bigger around than a phone cord. You know a phone cord is kind of flat. An ethernet cable is round.

an ethernet cord of Cat5,5e,6 (10mbit, 100mbit, 1000+mbit) looks like a phone cord only it has 4 pairs in it instead of 1. It is roughly the size of a coax cable only it is generally pretty twisty (cat6 is much stiffer due to the amount of twists in it)
the connector for cat5 is generally rj-45 which is like a large telephone connector.. (although you can hook up bnc, rca/composite or any connector you wish)

it has plugs on the ends similar to a phone cord, but with 8 wires instead of 4. The plug is wider than a phone cord.
It looks more like a round extension cord than a flat phone cord.
It will usually say CAT5/CAT6 or such on it.
