That's why they call this a free country. You don't have to be anything but yourself.

How can someone not be patriotic in America?
American patriotism = Shopping.
As long as your spending money, then even the republicans wouldnt care if you where here.

The first Christmas after September the 11th, Bush tolled Americans to "be good Americans" and "go shopping"....

Besides some of the individuals that hoot and haler about patriotism sold the Port of New York and a few other of the main shipping ports to the United Arab Emirates in 2003-2004 and another of the fav Republican Senators sold his stake in a huge rail road in the East Coast connected to the Port of New York to the United Arab Emirates as well in 2002. So it dosent really matter who/what/where/when/why/how, as long as you make a buck or spend one.

If you come to the US it might take at least 1 year to adjust to the culture. Or to a society that seems to be forgetting they have a culture.
For instance, it was very important to the American culture at one point, that if a man dosent have anything at least he has his word. Now, men are rarely ever honest, and they are proud of it.

So when you first get here you will be confused, because you will be bombarded with "the American Way" yet no one acts like that anymore. People will behave different than the way we say we do.

I have some very good, American friends who are not patriotic. I think you will find that, as education levels go up in the US, patriotism goes down. As you would know, patriotism is a substitute for knowledge for many, and you will definitely find fellow-cosmopolitans in the US. The ones who arent' though... yawn. I guess you'll just have to ignore their blabbering, just switch into daydreaming mode as soon as it comes up, it's what I used to do while living in the US.

What on earth does Cosmopolitan mean?

Yes, you can live here without being patriotic. But you do have to show respect to our traditions.

Depends on where you move when you get here. . .as to how much you will feel some pressure to be "patriotic".

I am in New York City and hate my government, don't think we should be in Iraq period and that protecting my civil liberties is paramount to any "war on terror" and I'm doing just fine.

You need to be in a metropolis and you need to join like minded friends for good intellectual stimulation. That's what us non-patriots do here.

Happiness relies upon on your opinion. So in basic terms in case you opt for to artwork and not bypass to college then thats precise for you. Its that easy.

Very, very possible. I'm not that terribly patriotic even though I'm citizen. You can still show whatever respect for whatever all long it doesn't break the laws (pursuit of happiness) :]

Patriotic or not, ours is the greatest nation on earth and the rest of the world knows it. Freedom rings and I love it. Yes we do have problems, but thats because we are free and have the right to acknowledge them. The enemy wants to take away freedom from those who have it, why? They are obviously evil at heart.

God bless the USA the land that I love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
