Yes it does. What happens is that it serves as white noise. It drowns out other noises in the room allowing you to play with less distraction.

I'm no health expert, but I listen to music when I play, and I get both bad and good results. ( I play FPS games)
1. When I listen to music when im doing good, my streak just gets better.
2. If I join a game and do bad.. the music just messed me up to the point of frustration( I stop the music ).
3. In many games that require you to listen for enemies, music covers that sound, therefor making you worse.

Music can ruin or elevate a gamer's mood while playing video games. Online games require more attention, therefore have less music, than your single player games.

It all really depends. Usually like games like Zelda, the music is basically hints that tell you you are on the right path. Also, in games like F.E.A.R., the music tries the follow the theme of the level you are on, so like if the music is in a scarey type of tone, that tells you that you will come accross a chunkfull of enemies.

i think it depends on the person to be honest. some people it just makes them distracted where with other people it can make them more focused or get them pumped up. some people play to the beat so it helps them get into a groove. just like studying and listening to music it helps some people concentrate and others it distracts
