Okay, I used to have alot of fun with this like 10 years a go when it came out. These researchers at University of Virginia were Kevin Bacon fans and they figured that even though he has never been a mega star, he has been in a heck of a lot of movies over the years. He has worked with such a variety of actors, that they determined that almost any medium to big star can be linked to Bacon through at least 6 links. In many cases even fewer than 6. They even designed a database to make the links.
Here's an example. You ask me "Stymie, I want you to link Will Ferrell with Kevin"
Answer: I can do it in 2 degrees. 1) Will Ferrell appeared in the movie Dick in 1999 with Shannon Lawson. 2) Shannon Lawson appeared in Where the Truth Lies in 2005 with Kevin Bacon.
The nutty thing is that guys like Ronald Regan, Boris Karloff and Abbot and Costello can be linked to Bacon (it takes the full 6 degrees but it can be done)
I got halfway decent at the game because I remember what big stars were in movies with Bacon and could link them by thinking of movies that they did with other actors and so on...
You can check degrees at the following website:

Good luck.

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon was a game (maybe a drinking game?) that was invented in the 90s by three college students. They turned it into a book and I think there may even have been a board game. In any case, I read on the Wikipedia page that they came up with the game after Kevin Bacon said something like, he'd worked with almost everyone in Hollywood.

Six degrees of separation is the hypothesis that anyone on Earth can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances with no more than five intermediaries.
The hypothesis was first proposed in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Karinthy Frigyes in a short story called Chains. The concept is based on the idea that the number of acquaintances grows exponentially with the number of links in the chain, and so only a small number of links is required for the set of acquaintances to become the whole human population.
