If someone was the victim of a crime would this information show up on any kind of background check? Would the police have access to this information if they ran a search on that person's name, ssn?

I'm not trying to hide anything, but it's personal information and I just wonder if it is accessible by others. I have several police officers as clients and I think if I had access to other people's records I would be curious and look them up just because I could.

eMale, I think you misinterpreted the question.

Zia,

Your worries are unfounded. The only records that are public would be those of the person "CONVICTED", or found culpable of the offense, and then only AFTER the conclusion of a trial.

Victims, on the other hand, are protected (in most cases) from exposure to that kind of thing. For instance, in a case of rape (to go to the extreme), the victim's name is not publicized, in an effort to protect them from further harm.

Good Luck

Unfortunately, yours is not a yes or no question. It all depends on what the police station that took the report did with the information and what if any questions the agency doing the background check asks them. The big deal with background checks is the person being looked in should never lie and should provide all information on their background. Most people doing background checks don't really care what someone has done, but they do care very much if they find a lie or information that wasn't reported. The idea is that if you're hiding something someone can blackmail you and make you do other unethical things. Good Luck!

No a background check just shows if someone was arrested.
It does not show a crime victim at all. That is not what a background check is for. It only shows if you were arrested or convicted of a crime.
