It depends. It is not lucky if you are Truman Capote, you have just written "In cold blood" and are desperate for the murderer's last drop... What a small person and a great writer he was!
I guess it is lucky if you are the person to be executed and the suspension is indefinite. Then again, if you are guilty and cannot live with the consequences of what you have done the suspension would mean prolonging of the suffering.
So, in the words of the same Capote - sometimes there are more tears shed over answered prayers then unanswered...
