Does anyone know if we will EVER see an open source console?

Question

This has been on my mind forever, and I don't really plan on buying ANY console until a company produces one. I hear the biggest argument is that it won't make any money, but I'm sure that has to be false, especially with so many open source tech and companies out there today that help better the world by sharing their code. Game companies could simply make the GAMES proprietary while the console's operating system and software would be open source. I always thought it would be cool, if your applying for a game company, what better way to show off some of your code, than on a console itself?

Does anyone know if were ever going to see an open source console?

actually open scource would make the companies loose money
its cause we are so limited that allows companies to make money
otherwise the best is breaking even and thats bad buisness

No, we will never see an open source console because too much money goes into making a console to make it free

we might see open source games come out for the 360 and PS3 but then again your losing money (Unless your able to download the game into the console thru your high-speed connection and save it on your HD....but I think M$ charges for that....i'm not sure but it's quite possible)

If anybody I would definately say Google, they will have the Goo game system. 100% free, open source, ad-supported.

However, besides Google, I doubt we will see a prominent open source console, at least for a while.

hi Jacob, superb question. Open source skill that all people can grow to be app builders, improve their own apps. the place as Apple has neglected that element. Android is attempting to realize a sturdy success via Open source approach. that is they might very own maximum persons of the industry. Android grow to be presented in 2008 i think and grew to grow to be very general in short span of time. as we communicate in the industry, no count what sensible telephone you spot, majority of them run Android. yet it is easy to truly connect Android and Google desires to place an eye fixed on them, and desires to host their apps of their play keep that's a confusing activity.
