It smells somewhat smokey, but not like hot smoke. It is noticable all the time, and really bad when the dishwasher runs. We are stumped as to what it is. Any advice????

You might need to repair your dishwasher..Some of the wires might be messed up and it can be a fire hazard...check and see if there are sparks from the wires in the dishwasher.

Perhaps the motor on the dishwasher is burning out, not enough lubricant in it. So when the dishwasher is in use the motor heats up and this results in a burning smell. It will linger well after the fact, that smokey smell is like that...it clings to everything.

@BlueCanary....The section you're thinking is termed the capture....it appears like once you ran the dishwasher that refilled the capture interior the kitchen sink and now one for the lavatory is dry. must be a blocked vent or maybe as utilising the toliet or dishwasher, washing gadget, etc its siphoning the water out of the traps to be able to drag air into the pipe so the water can drain. try operating water in that sink, and word if it is going away, then flush lavatory or use washing gadget and word in case you get a gurgling sound at any of the drains. it truly is an indication of the traps being sucked dry and likely is a blocked vent pipe.

If your waste line coming from your dishwasher does not have a loop in it it can be the constant smell you are smelling.Try to see if you have a loop in the waste hose.It may be clogging and causing the dishwasher motor to work too hard. Thus overheating your motor or wiring.

Try cleaning out the trap. And running the dishwasher with clorox bleach in it to sanitize it.

It sounds like sewer gas which can be a blocked pipe or sewer line.
