I mean, i feel odd asking it... and a bit stupid! lol.

I'm 21wks pregnant and my ankles hurt! They've been hurting the last week or so. Is this at all normal or pregnancy related?! lol. The only thing that seems to relieve them is to rotate them in little circles.. its really strange cause its not like my feet hurt or anything (which i would understand), its just my ankles.

Am i just strange? lol

NO! :))

Your body is putting more pressure on them. Plus, the hormone relaxin is going through your body. It loosens up your joints. So, it's probably making your ankles weaker the same time your putting more pressure on them.

I used to run warm water with epsom salts and soak. It worked wonders for my feet! At this point as long as they aren't swollen your fine. If they are swollen ask your doc about the next time you come in. They do a pressure test with their finger to see if it's normal swelling or water gain.

The soaking even helped post pregnancy after they swelled from IVs/Pitocin.

yes, it is probably called denial, and in christian circles perhaps unbelief , wallowing in the past, "why were the old days so much better" is not a mature outlook, is a silly question, (you have not lived ,it is easy to see, wanting to be emotionally attached to the past) such as the deep south in the time of the Civil War and the years after, when the industrial rev was still wet behind the ears. yes, everyone wants to live in that time, they all say they would be happy people if they were born around 1855 and died around 1910 or something , hmmmmmmm, there is no turning back, that is why there are movies, to satisfy this desire,or fantasy, excuse me for putting such a bad conotation on it, "wallowing in the past" i am sure you are not, but, then again.... odd again a need to break with current tradition, which is ok, but a tried clique, good luck, try this on Mars twe centuries after the colonization has taken place and has become current, don/t return from the futre where are you, in the past??? stay there

I am assuming you have small ankles, I do, and the same happened to me. It is because there is added pressure on them due to the fast weight gain pregnancy has a habit of doing. Just massaging and staying off your feet will help reduce the pain.
Congrats on your new one!!

**The only stupid question is the one never asked.

It's usually pretty normal, but definitely mention it to your doctor. It can be an early sign of pre-eclampsia and one other condition, which I don't recall the name, both of which are fairly common and treatable.

I agree with the prior post of soaking your legs in Epsom salt (that stuff works wonders), but also try to keep your legs propped up as much as possible. This is help to keep the blood circulating in your legs.

One of the side-effects of pregnancy is water retension, and one of the places you're going to notice it is in your ankles. You'll probably notice them beginning to swell, as well as hurt...Don't worry about it, though. Your doctor can help explain more and offer some suggestions for easing the discomfort.

It's normal! No worries! But if you continue to be concerned, you should mention it to your doctor. your ankles will swell when you're pregnant, and the change in weight, where you carry it and how much you're carring, is changin, so your body is just adjusting.

your body is probably feeling the stress of the excess weight. Try getting some inserts for your shoes to keep your feet supported through the day.
