fission was used in the hiroshima bombs..older way of nuclear power..fussion is the way of the future..still in develoment...fission broke the atoms...fusion fuses them together...you get more power this way

Fission and fusion are opposites.
Nuclear fission is the breaking down of heavy elements into lighter ones.(nuclear reactor)
Nuclear fusion is the fusing together of two lighter elements to make a heavier one, i.e. hydrogen into helium. (how the sun works)

Fission: Hit a large unstable (radioactive) nucleus with a fast, heavy particle (a neutron). The nucleus of the molecule splits, creating two or more smaller nuclei, two or more neutrons, and energy in the form of photons.

Fusion: Squeeze together light nuclei to form heavier nuclei and energy in the form of photons. Stars work like this.
