Why do people feel the need to try and talk people out of it. Like the other person said people react to this topic like they do abortion, it's circumcision get a grip people. Answer the damn question and keep your opinions to yourself. If cannot answer the question without criticizing the persons decision to do it or not to do it then don't answer. My son's was done before we went home so he was almost three days old because I had a c-section. Oh yeah and my doctor said when she did it he never cried or even jumped so it must not have hurt that bad. And someone said something about thanking my husband for doing it, nope I sure wouldn't. I've seen an uncircumcised penis and it is disgusting. Like having sex with an 80 year old man who has big droopy penis, yuck.

I belive that every doctor has their own prefernce. When my son was born (22 years ago) the doctor did it immediately after delivery. When I asked him why, he said the baby was still traumatized from the birth so why traumatize him a day later and that the nurses are trained to watch for complications and they could observe him for the next two days of my stay. Made perfect sense to me, but while I was there I saw other baby boys being circumcized right before they were going to go home. Ask your physician what his normal procedure is.

it usually depends on the hospital /ped Dr. So you will need to ask the hospital where you will be at. My son was done within 48 hours of being born. My sisters son was done within 2 hours and I have heard of some who send you home and come back a week or so later. Good luck

They circumcised my first son when he was a day old and while he was in the hospital. That was really nice because the doctors and nurses checked it frequently for any sign of infection.
My second son (my husband was in the activated reserves) they did it in the doctors office when he was a week old. For some reason the doctors never came to see the baby in the hospital and just relied on the hospital staff to do so. This isn't the case at all military bases but in mine it was.

Our hospital doesn't do the procedure and you have to arrange it directly with the pediatrician. We didn't circumcise our son but I remember reading this in the hospital packet.
Most parents who choose the surgery bring their babies to the ped's office a few days after birth to do the surgery. But circumcision isn't as common here in my region of New England as it is everywhere else.
I would call the hospital ahead of time and ask them so you are prepared. Also call your pediatrician if you've already arranged for one.
Good luck!

I haven't had a baby yet so my personal experience has been limited to the fact that my Mom failed to have my brother done at birth. He was done later as a boy - not a pleasant experience. A good friend had a boy and he was done in hospital by her Ob/Gyn at about 20 hours of age. He was allowed to go home about 2 hours later after he had peed.

Depends on time, if the doctor has the time to perform the procedure he will do it before the child leaves the hospital, if not, then he will schedule an appointment within the following week.

What's with all the foreskin lovers lately? Geesh. This isn't abortion or something like that. It's circumcision. If you DON"T get it done, wait until your 14, 15 year old tries to do it themselves with a knife or some sh$t like that. It's your 'choice". Do it or don't do it. This isn't a big deal people. Oh, but wait, wait, wait for it.............."but it's NOT a choice,it's a PENIS" blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahahahaha.
You people crack me up!
Anyway, each doc varies. Talk to your babies ped doctor. It is best to do it before you go home (no sense to make you come back), but it really is up to the doctor doing it. I've had two boys, and the only thing that i hate doing is removing the bandage. Just make sure you keep plenty of A&D on it, and even wipe some on the inside of the diaper. Good luck!! And just tell all the foreskins on here telling you not to do it that you weren't asking if you should or not. Stupidy must be linked with keeping your foreskin....along with UTI's, bacteria, stinky peter cheese, and what not.
