But all of the newer vehicles, no matter what make or model, are crap.
Ford has been making crap for years, since the 50's.
I wish they still made the flat head engine.
Toyota and Honda are better than the other big three, less crappier anyway.
If you don't drive em, they won't break down.

Well, I have a 1996 Chevy S10 with the big "high-output" 4.3 liter Vortec V6, and I have replaced EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING short of engine parts or other drivetrain parts. I'm talking even down to the ball joints and all the brakes 3 times since I've gotten it. It actually drives GREAT, when all my parts are new. So the common wisdom is this: IF it is driving great now: Take your trip. However, if you have symptoms of something going bad, do not take the trip yet. You have an ok vehicle. Tecnically it's more reliable than mine. You're probably just worried because you probably don't have the financial resouces to withstand a breakdown on the road (aka hotel for the night or two, mechanic, tow, etc). That could be a thousan bucks. I know, I've done it. What you need to do is learn as much as you can about how to fix your own vehicle, and since it's a pickup, you need to be carrying enough tools to basic repairs on the side of the road and you need FULL SIZE SPARE, NOT A DONUT. I have brand new tires (newish), and I had them replace my spare with a 5th (exact duplicate) of the others, that way should I incur a flat, I'll be rolling just fine at full speed after I change a tire. Now that I think of that it's time for a rotation. I have 7 jacks, so I think I'll do that myself and save money. Do you change your own oil? If not, start by doing that, then learn how to do brakes (both disc and drum), then learn how to change half shafts, learn how to change alternators (those always go out eventually, and ANYONE CAN DO THIS ON THEIR OWN), yet most people pay someone else to do it. Learn how to flush and fill your radiator (even though I actually pay a shop to do that one). Remember, if the truck is running right, take the trip. If you have bad symptons, don't do it. Always replace your cap and rotor every 50,000 miles. Has yours been changed? Replace all spark plugs every 30,000 miles. Do it youself, and label all the wires while you're doing it so you don't screw up and accidently forget which wire coming from the distributor goes to which cylinder (that sucks). Replace plug wires when you replace plugs, and yes, always replace the main one in the middle that I can't remember the name of right now (heck I just replaced the damn thing.... Great memory I have....

With the number of vehicles they sell, I can only imagine that there will be problems with some. That doesn't make them all bad. I owned a 99 GT that I abused daily and it was a great car. My wife drives a 2003 Sport Trac 4wd with 67K miles and it's been trouble free (except for 1 window regulator). I have a customer with a 97 Taurus that has 207K miles and runs and idles like new and a few other Taurus customers well past 100K and still driving well. I think the person hit the nail on the head with the maintenance comment.
Change the oil, flush the fluids, rotate the tires, replace filters, & perform general maintenance timely and you decrease the chances of major problems. It's always interesting to hear about a Ford breaking down, but it would be more interesting to know how well it was maintained.

they aren't, no much more then any other vehicle. sounds like a maintenance issue
but the there is the saying

Because the cars you have are junk, scrap them and buy a car you can have inspected by a certified mechanic,he will give you an idea if the car is in good shape ,the cost to have it inspected is well worth the price of all your frustration!!! good luck
