when it becomes yogurt.
seriously. Theres no set time on how long it takes milk to go bad but when it starts to smell sour then it shouldn't be used for drinking but cooking is still ok because when the milk is heated the bacteria that produce the sour smell are killed off while cooking.

My lactation consultant told me to go by the 5 rule when I asked the same question. Pumped breastmilk is good for 5 hours at room temp, 5 days in the refrigerator and 5 months in the freezer.

milk in the gallon goes bad when the date says so. Formula you are supposed to throw out 2 hours after you make it I believe, unless you put in it the fridge in which case as long as it wasnt the part the baby was drinking out of it is good for 24 hours.

Formula is good for about 6 hours out of the fridge and can stay in the fridge for 1-2 days.

When you tilt the carton sideways, if there is a ring around the inside where the milk level was, its bad.

It will last about two weeks in a very cold refrigerator, if you buy a package that isn't already outdated in the market.
