Read stories, go for walks, get a play mat, if he can hold his head up steadily you can get a jolly jumper or an exersaucer. These are things he can do to entertain himself while you do things in the same room while you talk to him.

As a stay at home mother to a seven month old child I would suggest joining a local mommy and me group. There are several websites online with listings specific to your community. Within these groups you can develop a valuable support system that includes other mothers in your similar situation as well as mothers who have been there. This has proved to be very helpful to me as questions regarding development, vaccinations, etc. come about. If you're looking for things that are more one on one based for you and your child websites like huggieshappybaby.com have areas on their site devoted to sharing activities that parents can participate in with their children. Specifically on this site the activities are under the "Fun Tools-Activities Playhouse" link at the top of the page. Enjoy!

When my son was that young I could stick him under the christmas tree for a good hour! I really think all of the lights increased brain function!

lol i read the comment about the christmas tree and it reminded me that my daughter used to stare at the fan for half hours at a time lol
i think the best thing to do for him at his age is just to talk to him and play with him
