hmm....we're well on our way. We already have our own anthem (Free Bird) and I know quite a few good ole' boys that like to say "the south will rise again" at every opportunity. And I bet we own more guns and are better target shooters than the rest of the country.

Just so you know (incase you might have missed it), this question isn't meant to be taken too seriously :)

Thanks for the answers!

Are some people actually getting offended by this question? Didn't mean to offend...

You know why it might be a legitament question in 50 years or so? Because if we let these islamofacists take over, the South will be the last to give in, they (we) will fight to the death against this Mulsim takeover, and if those liberal northern cities have accepted their fate under the islamofacists in the name of "diversity", the south will have no choice but get out before they too are taken over.

The South may not even have to separate itself this time! The way things are going, our country is fraying in so many ways, economically, racially, culturally, and even politically, due to the unending misrule from an irresponsible, corrupt and top-heavy center, that when things completely fall apart, the sovereign states (or perhaps even smaller polities and groups) might have to assume self-government whether they want to or not!

We already have a Federal government that has just about lost us TWO wars in one Presidency; whose dollar (once the reserve currency for the rest of the world!) has lost over 90% of its purchasing power since 1945 while becoming the world's most insolvent debtor nation, Whose schools, or what is left of them are all mired in a sewer of quack "psychotherapy" on one hand, and the babyish feel-good pandering to spokesmen for the endless run of minority malcontents who set the day-to-day school agendas can no longer offer anything remotely describable as "education" for the vast majority of inmates trapped within.

A national government and its ruling elite who is so afraid of its own subjects that it makes ordinary airport travel on our part an ordeal, treating the most law-abiding of us like we were all secret operatives of Al-Q'aida, while at the same time they offer "amnesty" to millions of unassimilable, possibly hostile illegal aliens, whom they are unable (or unwilling) to defend our own country against.

A hopelessly insolvent Medicare and Social Security retirement system whose money has already been spent many times over while facing the impending retirement of a self-indulgent, impatient, and often profilgate baby boomer generation.

You said that renewed interest in secession "shouldn't be taken seriously". It ought to be. There are at least as many reasons for US government disintegration within the lifetime of most of the people who will be reading this, as there were for the dissolution of the first "evil empire" beginning in the 1970's. That was a surprise for most Americans when it finally happened in 1991 also!

I hope that the new South is able to do a better job this time around than they did the first time! Thank you for asking the question--it HAS to be asked!

The South WILL rise again!

Ever since the War of Northern Aggression, the south has dreamed of being separated from the Yankees. It's never gonna happen in spite of what Charlie Daniels says...
My answer isn't meant to be taken seriously either. Lighten up people!!!

No. The next attempt at separation will be CA. The other 49 states will want them to leave.

In the contiguous states, I live about as far south as you can get, and I promise that you would want the good 'ole boys I know on your side should things get dicey.

BTW. Skynard is played every ten-minutes at all sporting events here--it's the law.

You people overreacted to a fun spirited question, and well it would be interesting to see a Southern Nation.

Sure we should. We don't need to be attached to the corrupt Multicultural mongrels of the North. An independent South would be safer saner nation.

We won't fight you this time, we have all the money. We always wanted to stop subsidizing your states. You can hold on to your guns you will need to hunt more quail (OR Cheney's friends whichever makes a better BBQ).

Plus we have more mafia and Rastafarian's than you have guns or militia. If you try to come back in we will sic them at ya.

no. You can't take a region seriously who accepted a Yankee song as their original Anthem (DIXIE), then again Battle Hymm of the Republic was written by a southerner.
