Okay I'm back and I'll admit that I don't have the idea I was hoping to have.
I do agree we should be able to protect ourselves from an attacker; but you did say that it should be a right that we shouldn't exercise. And if someone's attacking you, you should protect yourself.
You just put my mind in a bind because if I have a right, then garsh-darn-it I want to exercise it!
Thanks again for the question. I will continue to have it bouncing around in my head for months-to-come.
