I've always had some trouble picking colors for myself. If you are makeup-savvy, I would appreciate some input.
I have very fair skin, brown eyes and black hair. Essentially... I look just like my avatar.
Brand?
Shade?
Price?
Where I can find it?

Please... something affordable.

I like buying make-up from drug stores, but the tricky part is that the lighting in stores is very different from the natural light outside. Try going to Rite Aid because they let you return opened make-up packages if the color turned out wrong for you. Just keep the receipt. Also, Walmart carries a few cheaper brands that have some great colors (Rimmel, NYC, etc.). Buy one at a time though, because some of the cheaper brands are too water-based, which makes them disappear really quick.

When you get a little money, go to a make-up counter at a department store and ask a make-up artist what she would recommend for you as a good, every day shade. She'll try to sell you the lipstick right away, so ask her if you can get a sample of the lipstick so that you can try it out for a couple of days to be sure. Tell her you want to make sure it's not too drying on your lips, which is important. Get her name and come back and buy the lipstick from her when you can. Also, look for make-up counter sales, coupons, and free make-overs. But don't let them try to sell you stuff you don't need.

Also, don't be afraid to ask people who's make-up you like what brand and color lipstick they're wearing. Chances are they'll be flattered and more than willing to help you.

In the meantime, use lipgloss - it looks good on everybody.

LOL sorry, the gothic subculture is ALWAYS going to corner the market on black lipstick. It always has. Anyone can pull off red lipstick if they find one that actually complements their skin tone. Black is tough. Honestly, I have never seen anyone who isn't goth look good in black lipstick. In fact, many of the goths I've seen have looked pretty horrible in it too. As for your liberal view of color, good luck convincing your workplace that black, green, and blue lipsticks are acceptable! lol You're probably very young though, I'm guessing. It's ok....that's what being young is for. Rock all of the tacky, unnatural colors & atrocious outfits you want and get it out of your system. That stuff will mostly be long gone when you grow up.

Your coloring sounds like me, I have very fair skin, dark brown eyes, and very dark brown hair.

I feel that, because of my fair skin, any color I wear really POPS, so I stick to very natural colors.

Do you know if you are a "cool" or a "warm"? Have "pink undertones" or "gold undertones"

If you know these things, that will help, also.

Try to find colors that are similar to your natural lip color.

As for brands, I think everyone has their own favorites you just have to experiment. My favorite is Mary Kay. I've had really good luck with Sonia Kashuk and L'Oreal.

If you don't mind applying it frequently, I would grab several Wet 'n Wild colors to experiment with at home. They're cheap and they have a nice selection. Once you find the perfect color for you, find a very similar color in a higher end brand.

I like to experiment with different lipsticks too so I go to the drugstore and buy the 99 cents cheapies, like Love My Lips or Wet N Wild or N.Y.C. You don't have to spend a lot to get something cool. and since they're so cheap you can buy a bunch of them and try them out, and if you truly hate something, it's not a huge loss. Especially if you're like me -- I get tired of the same color every day so I tend to have a bunch of colors in my bag or I mix n match.

For your complexion I would go with something sheer peachy or rosy. You can't go wrong with a color that's not too far from your natural lip color. Also, clear lip balm is AMAZING as a base to make almost any color more sheer. I never put on lipstick without first putting on chapstick lol. You can also mix n match two or more shades to create a new color or make it more shimmery

What kind of look are you going for? Nice girl? get a shiny peachy color. Sophisticate? berry. Hot? get an electric pink or christmas red. I like revlon or loreal, they are under $10 each, at any general retailer, WalMart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, you name it. Styli-Style is a great brand also, and about $7, a little higher than the others, but it lasts longer. CVS has it, for sure, or Cosmeticmall.com
