The 2 most important lines in this speech are:

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

and

"Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred."

both of which have been forgotten by modern "civil rights" advocates like Sharpton and Jackson.

He was an eloquent, charismatic speaker who invoked strong emotions in his audience. He spoke of Peace, not war. He spoke of love, not hatred. His message was one of unity, not the message of division we hear a lot of today.

Yes, but unfortunately, the civil rights movement has been taken over by the likes of Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton.

The movement really needs a better leader.

In my opinion MLK is responsible for a lot of the violence we see in American today. He can also take credit for the fact that English is now the second language in several US States.
------------------------------------------

MLK encouraged peace. Not violence. The violence that occurs today are due to people like you or people who misinterpret and twist his message. People like you just don't get it.

The problem with this country is that we can't accept diversity and learn from it. Diversity is bad in this country. Look at yourself, you can't even stand the fact that english isn't the main language. WHO CARES! There's nothing wrong with speaking spanish, or being multilingual.

THE COUNTRY SHOULD BE COLOR BLIND.

No. It should be more accepting of all our differences. Not oblivious to it.

HE BECAME A SYMBOL ONLY CAUSE HE WAS MURDERED

Wrong again. People like James Dean become symbols because they died. MLK accomplished many things and was an inspiration for many. Had he lived, he would've touched many more lives. Why do you downplay his impact>

Before MLK immigrants, legal or not were proud to blend into our society and become true Americans. MLK taught people to be more proud of their heritage than being American. Proud to be Black, Mexican, Cuban, etc. In my opinion MLK is responsible for a lot of the violence we see in American today. He can also take credit for the fact that English is now the second language in several US States.

He was a fine man. he had his faults.but we all have our faults. the blacks needed someone to lead them and he fit the bill to a tie. I am glad that people admire him. as a white Southerner I think it was great what he said and tried to do.and did do.My people have always been for black folks.many generations back.he made it possible for change to take place that needed to be done.he simply had a certain charisma and presence about him. I believe God was with him in the Spirit and guided his words and actions. I know he is in heaven.I hope to talk with him when I get there.

MLK envisioned a "color blind society" where people were judged on "content of character" rather than "color of skin"

Which is ironic, because those who lay claim to MLK's legacy often support the racist policy of Affirmative Action, where content of character, or "merit", takes a backseat to skin color.
