If I was you I'd look in the yellow pages, it may sound old fashioned but it's still best place to get a phone number, than call & see what they can do! Good luck!

Check the official state bar listing for the lawyer. Search the lawyer's name on yahoo. Are the hits citations to cases he won, articles he wrote or disciplinary actions brought against him by the state bar? Insist on a written engagement agreement, which you actually have to read. The lawyer does not know you from Adam so he or she will want a cash retainer. Make sure that it is a refundable deposit and not a prepaid fee. Make sure the agreement calls for the lawyer to deposit the cash in his client trust account which is regulated.

I get a great deal of my clients from the Internet, but most of them are referred through my bar association to my website. Also, I send a contract when I am getting clients that do not physically come in my office. Lawyers have all kinds of regulations on fee quoting and what we are supposed to do with fees. If they are not talking about their IOLTA account and your money then I would be concerned.

I am a lawyer and I am telling you that you would be crazy to hire an attorney on-line. Don't do it. You need to meet your attorney to make sure you see eye to eye.
