Don't take it personally, My angle on it is this; some questions make people think about outside issues- and by speaking your (my) mind- I release and confirm certain toughts and ideas in MY mind. So, Its a selfish thing for me- not intentionally trying to be thought of as a smartie.

I write long answers because if I know something about a subject, I like to explain as much as I can to the person asking the question. Everything isn't so black and white.
And because I talk a lot. And I type just like I talk.

Because some people have low self confidence in their ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, so they need affirmation that they may be smart and are looking to impress others with their logic, which in turn will provide that affirmation and boost their self confidence and self worth.

No, this is a good thing. Venue. It helps your character. Some people are bombastic, and, as you said, some people just want to show off. Be tolerant. Most people wouldn't even be on this and communicate with other people ... out of fear.

simply because we want to have people believe we are smart, it makes us feel like we are smart to have people believe we are smart, and i just ran out of words, cause i would like to go on and on and on about this thesis but simplly cannot because i do not have the words for it i guess i'm not as smart as i thought i was.
