My wife and I just had a daughter and she is producing more then twice as much breast milk as the baby needs. We would like to know more about selling or donating the excess milk instead of just dumping it down the drain.

Dont dump it out, Freeze it into the bags/bottles to use for later use. I myself in the beginning was making quite a bit too much, but it levels out and especially if you are pumping will begin to decline.

You can freeze some for later use.

Contact your hospital or La Leche League and find out if there is a milk bank near you taking donations. A LLL Leader might also know of mothers looking for mom to mom direct donations.

If she steps down the pumping, her body will adjust and make less milk.

Hi.. It's better for you to store and freeze it in bottles for later use. You can easily warm the breastmilk that you store in the freezer anytime your baby girl need to drink. Your wife can take more rest / even go out without worrying to rush back to feed the baby and you can help in feeding the baby with the bottle.

These frozen milk can be stored for weeks. But do keep away from storing together with meats.

You probably won't be able to sell it, but you should be able to donate it. And it would be wonderful if you did. Many hospitals go through milk banks to get breast milk for the preemies because it is so much better for them.

Try here. http://www.nationalmilkbank.org/

Please don't dump it... It's like gold, there are freezer bags to properly store/freeze breast milk and use it at a later date. Breast milk can be frozen for up to 3 months in a regular fridge freezer and 6 months in a deep freezer (the chest size type) I really don't think you can make money from it....sorry.

Yes, you can freeze it for later. It will come in handy if you want to do an overnight away fro home one night.

There are people who are "wet nurses". People use their milk when they can't produce their own.

Maybe check with your local hospital, pediatrician or lactation nurse.

You can check out the following websites.

just "google" "where can I buy/sell breast milk?

Alternately, you could call your local hospital, your local chapter of "La Leche League" or similar organizations. What ever you do, don't waste it.

You can freeze it for your own baby "just in case. " Check out this site: familydoctor.org/828.xml

Unfortunately, the task of screening it all (because the milk will carry all the mothers ingested ingredients) for drugs, alcohol, tobacco, diseases etc, etc, would be cost prohibitive and no one would take a chance with their own baby unless it was certified safe.

you could save it in a container and drink the breast milk instead of store bought milk for awhile, I don't know of any outlets buying human breast milk...
