Pubic lice (often called crabs because of their crab like appearance) are a 6-legged creature that infests the hair in the pubic region. People with pubic lice often experience itchiness. This can worsen at night when the lice become active and bury their heads inside pubic hair follicles to feed on human blood. Constant itching and scratching can cause the area to become raw, resulting in a secondary bacterial infection. Scratching can also spread the lice.

You can tell if you have crabs by the constant itching and you might be able to see the nits on the base of your pubic hairs or the adults, which may look like a small mole on your body. They are very, very small and difficult to see. If you suspect you have crabs you can get an over-the-counter treatment medicated shampoo used to treat head lice at any drugstore or Wal-mart. This shampoo will also cure the crabs. Read the directions on how to use. Be sure to wash you sheets and bathtowels and clothes and don't share with anyone as these are some ways they can spread to others. Don't have sex until cured. And, just so you know you can't catch them from furniture, toilet seats, or animals. They are not like fleas and do not jump on a person.

Good Luck!

It will itch.

You can get medication to fix the problem, or the easier way to prevent catching crabs, get your public hair waxed (or shaved)

The main symptoms of infection are itching and burning of the pubic area.
