Yes. In fact I have an ancient Babylonian scroll which I stole from a museum when I was off to the war in Baghdad which is a recipe book. It has a really nice recipe for Artichoke dip to use with fried goat feet. Those people back then could really party like Assyrians.

Artichokes were eaten around the Mediterranean before 500BC so it is likely.
