Just dumping a fish out into some water some place is a bad idea. If you really can release it into the environment it actually came from, fine. But look at those snakeheads, a Chinese land-walking fish that people just dumped in ponds - now they are ravaging other fish and walking over to other nearby water and spreading all over the place. So unless you can return it to where it came from, or its proper environment, sell it.

When i have a fish that gets too large for it's tank, i've never had a problem with "giving" mine away to a pet store. If you can sell it to a responsible fish keeper by all means--sell it.

I would suggest taking it to a pet store and see if they will let you do some kind of trade on it I know alot of the pet stores around here will let you do that. I had an aggressive purple tang that would kill any fish that i put in there, so I put it in a quarantine for a week and it hasn't acted up since so if you would like to keep the fish then try the quarantine go to the pet store and let them know what is going on and they will guide you in what you need to do the quarantine. Best of luck to you.

You should really do a scientific experiment with it. I would microwave it on defrost to see if it lives. Then if it does try cooking on low, med, high settings. Then throw it back in the Tank to see if it still has an attitude problem.
If he continues to give you attitude. Next time a bad storm (snow/ice) comes along. Put the tank outside to freeze. or you can use a freezer. Then after everything freezes. Bring him back inside to unthaw. See if he still continues with the Attitude.

You should first discuss this with the fish. I had a similar problem with my teenagers a few years ago. I wound up throwing them back.
