racism stems from ethnocentrism and thinking that the "other race will take over". To stop racism we have to educate the people and learn to LOVE the other race. We have to embrace all the different cultures as our own. From birth through childhood, we must live together and go to school together and encourage interracial interaction and play. This is exactly what the United States is doing. But actually I think some people cannot help themselves, and in certain ways it's human nature to exclude people.

nothing can be done about racism while different races exist. anyone who is differnt will always be ostracized as long as we live in a society with free speech. for people to regulate speech would be limiting our freedoms, and no one wants freedom limited.
or are you asking why can't we all just get along? ever since the first legged fish (or whatever it was) crawled out of the earth, there has been competition among entities. it used to be a life and death thing. in some countryies, differences still are. the n-bomb is better that a big gaping hole in your head from a bullet, isn't it? learn to tolerate racism and soon it won't affect you. thats all you can do for something that won't go away.

Many of us are ethno-centric and think racism is only an American trait.

Actually, racial descrimination is a very human trait that is universal and in many places in the world practiced openly and often with deadly results. Even in a "modern nation" like Japan for instance, a person is not automatically granted citizenship even if they are born there unless they came from parents of pure Japanese ancestry.

The nation of Fiji just yesterday had its military overthrow the democratically elected civilian government over (among other things) a plan to "re-distribute" valuable coastal land to "ethnic Fijians" at the expense of Fijian-born east Indians who comprise 44% of the Fijian nation.

There is no easy answer to the question of racism except that grass-roots global social pressure must be applied to make it socially unaceptable.

I doubt that it will matter very much though.

The impulse to place importance of a persons ethnic backround won't go away because "birds of a feather" really do "flock together". We are simple animals and are driven by simple impulses.

This a joke? People will hate each other for days, the N word gets used and the world goes nuts, the racial slurs of any other culture is looked past, its the blame fest on all races that creates a hatred to each other. Limit the media, take freedom of speech away and then you might have a chance. Whining is the main thing, people bring it up like now, why why why why, as long as their are quotas, NAACP, KKK, etc allowed to be around by law will be the ones affecting our youth.

First, I think judging people isn't bad, it's judging people irrationally thats bad. Second, the only way to end racism is to end the ingorance of peoples way of thinking. Buts since they're are many forms of discrimination besides racism, like Heightism, Lookism, Sexism, Sexuality discrimination, thats always been here, it's unlikely it will be fixed. People are easily to discriminate.

You can lead by example; hold the door open for a person of another race, say `please and thank you' and give up your seat on the bus ... They are small things, but they will eventually mushroom into larger things and, hopefully others will follow your example.
We may not end racism in our lifetime, but we can start a trend away from it.

If only everyone were just like me then there would be no racism. We'd all be the same race and think the same way and do the same things. It would be a wonderful place.

There have been so many examples of racism in the U.S.A. but not many plans to help stop it. For example, As of January 2001, there were over two million Americans incarcerated in federal and state prisons and local jails. More than one-half are black men and women. While civil rights organizations like the NAACP and black institutions such as churches and mosques have begun to address this widespread crisis of black mass imprisonment they have definitely not given it the attention it deserves. What needs to be done is have ideas come up about how to stop racism and have them be set into action. Our plan includes five steps to help stop racism first locally, but eventually nationally.
Our first step is to organize a “field trip” for all of the New York schools to go and attend a seminar with a speaker from the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) who talks about racism. The cost will be free to all students (our million dollar budget should be enough to pay for the kids with about $500,000 left). They will learn racism awareness from this.
Step two is using the rest of our money to finance a “racism awareness week”. In this week, the entire curriculum of New York schools will help raise racism awareness in NYC schools. Teachers will be told to teach about current events having to do with racism, and let the kids have an open discussion about them. Kid’s eyes will be opened to some of the racism happening in New York, and around the country.
Step three is giving the kids a weeklong homework assignment to “pay it forward” by helping to stop racist acts; whether it’s recognizing racism on television, or coming up with ideas on how to make the world racism free. The kids would have a week to do this assignment, and then hopefully, after hearing everyone’s plans, they will become more racism-aware.
The fourth and penultimate step to this plan is having the schools choose the best plans for erasing racism and having the finalists meet in a state meeting where members of the NAACP judge the best plan. The winner will explain their plan to the governor of New York and the governor will present the plans to Congress.
The final step in this plan is to have it widespread across the country. After three years of just New York schools, this should be used in every state. Then, eventually, out of the millions of plans submitted, there should be at least one that is valid enough to be put into action. This plan will then be made into a national bill
Hopefully, this plan will impact racist acts enough to eliminate them. Also, people will be more conscious of racism and will make their own attempts to do away with it. In our group’s opinion, racism should be a crime worthy enough to get sent to jail over. America should definitely rid itself of racism and discrimination.

Modern racism depends completely on people getting flustered and letting it suppress them. That's why we are still talking about it after years of 90% of talk on the subject being about prevention.
