need to get books about Detroit.

Go to your library's online catalog and type "Detroit" in the search as a keyword. An alternative search method is to search for "Detroit" in the subject field only (most online catalogs permit this). You will get better hits doing it this way. If you are searching for more specific books, then add a key word or two as appropriate, e.g. "history", "automobiles", etc.

Don't forget general and geographical reference sources: if you're doing a report, an encyclopedia might be a good place to begin.

You didn't say what it is that you want to know about Detroit so I took the liberty of searching in the largest library in the land for you. The Library of Congress has over 4,000 titles with the word "Detroit" in the subject heading.
