I so agree that some doctors can be a real PITA but they do not have a magic wand either to measure pain. The one thing I do know is to keep looking. Make sure you do NOT settle for their gibberish about it all being in your head and counseling may help. I have met some horrific doctors who claimed I had no problem and found out later I have ACM (Arnold Chiari Malformation). This is part of the cerebellum herniated into the spine. I have had a doctor tell me after three disks were bolted that he did not want to hear about my pain when my husband called to say I was falling down due to pain in my chest. I have no mental issues except a feeling of depression which only comes on when I realize my limitations and have to deal with pain every moment of every day. Keep looking for a doctor that listens. It does seem to me that if most of them cannot heal you then they write it off as that interferes with their feelings of playing God.

Doctors can only tell you that they can't see a physiological reason (i.e. a pinched nerve or something) that would make you experience pain. That doesn't make the pain go away, though, does it?!

Sounds like sciatica to me. Pain generates in the butt/lower back, radiates down the back or side of the leg, sometimes extending past the ankle. This can be caused from pressure on your sciatic nerve in your lower vertebra.

Have you seen a chiropractor? Or a kinesiologist? Try an alternative health provider like one of these. I've had much better luck managing back pain with either of these types of doctors. Regular doctors usually just want you to take pain meds and see a physio.

If a doctor ever tells you that you are not hurting, ask them: Is pain "objective" or "subjective"?

We do not have a pain-o-mometer to tell us if you are in pain or not. We know that pain is a SUBJECTIVE experience, a sort of discomfort of varying degrees of intensity, associated with tissue damage. If you tell a doctor that your pain score is 10 out of 10, then they should document that it is 10 out of 10.

However, we DO know that people who are in pain often have other physiological reactions - rapid heart rate, raised blood pressure, etc. They often LOOK like they are in pain. They look uncomfortable.

We find it very difficult to deal with the patient who tells us that they are in 10 out of 10 pain, but then goes back to watching the TV (especially if they are trying to make us believe they have a migraine).

There are also pains that do not respond to morphine.

There are pains which are not associated with actual tissue damage, no matter how much it feels like your leg is having a hole drilled in it. Some of these pains are because the nerve has been injured previously and continues to send signals of pain even when it is not being injured currently.

Some people have pain generated purely by their brain and their thoughts. This is a particularly difficult form of pain to treat.

Perhaps you should see your family doctor and ask to be referred to a pain clinic. Talk with the pain clinic people and be open to what they might have to say because there are many other ways of getting rid of pain that can be much better than having a shot of morphine. If they want to use psychological approaches - give them a try. If you are shutting it all out by saying "you're telling me I'm crazy - I'm telling you I'm not and that I've got this pain" then you're not going to be able to work together with the doctors to help you find out and sort out the pain.

Have you ever hurt your back before? Sometimes in the human body when they have been hurt before it could hurt several years. Or even decades if you have had surgery. Some pains are from rememberence, or sort of imagination. The human mind sometimes re-enacts pain. Also, watch your posture. I have a very pained back because of my posture. Back problems can also be hereditory. Ask your doctor about these, even though you feel as if they are incorrect. Try back excersizes as well, a huge help to the back. See if this helps.

This does not sound like fraud, nor does it look they lied to you. They most commonly gave you an EOB...an ESTIMATE of what might be paid for and what might be protected by way of coverage. The dr's workplace will get an estimate out of your coverage manufacturer. So your problem is with the coverage manufacturer, now not the dr's workplace. It might most effective be fraud in the event that they billed for a system they didn't participate in.

I hope you are not malingering-I find it hard to imagine you having seen 50 doctors and probably you have undergone so many tests and still the doctors do not find anything wrong with you? Maybe there is really nothing wrong with you!
