There are several dimension. There are 4 known spatial dimensions. Length, height, depth, and time. There are also believed to be other dimensions that involve statistics. It is mainly based on the atomic level, because that is where statistics are really needed. The idea is much like dropping a coffee cup. There are many possibilities that could happen from there, and in other dimensions, something different has happened at least once.

It's not a belief, it's a fact at this point. Other dimensions are exactly the same as the one we are all living in now, only, they're nothing like it. There are an infinite number of dimensions.

I saw the fifth dimension in concert once a long time ago so they do exist. I'm not sure if they're still singing.
