People are more relaxed when they have less stress. Some stress is self induced and some people actually thrive on stress. Life in the big city has a lot of challenges, employment, families, cost of living, housing, keeping up with the Joneses, saving for retirement, avoiding failure, these factors all contributing to a harried and hurried culture. People do need to calm down and maybe set their sights on realistic goals and not try to have it all!

Yes, I agree with you. It's true that I am rushing - I'm not a morning person and it's always a miracle when I get to work on time.
However, if I don't have to rush, I don't. Sometimes, I think people get off on rushing - it's like some kind of high, or maybe it makes them feel important - that everything in their life is a very big deal. Or maybe some people just work better under pressure, stress - that's the only way they can get anything done.
It's true that the world itself is more fast-paced with all the high-tech that we have in our lives now. But are we going to control how the technology affects us or is the technology going to control us.
For example, when I turn off the computer, is it over between me and the computer or will the computer turn me on, so that I have to put the computer on again?

Society has transformed into an era where people feel that they have to do everything NOW instead of some times stopping and thinking things through. Technology is the cause of alot of it, because it changes so fast that people have to keep up and it allows for things to move faster because of processing and transaction speeds. Also with retail companies marketing sales and bargains that only have a limited time to be taken advantage of, people are having to move fast to get what they want.
Eventually what people will learn is that simple is the best way to go.

Think about of it in a simple way to search for a clear answer.
1. When you are using your cell phone, you may be in no hurry to answer because you have the choice to answer the call now or later. Here you have some control.
2. When you are rushing to catch at train, you cannot afford to miss it. Here you have no control.
We can always choose when to hurry and when to slow down. But life is not all that simple.
Driving to work in a rush often causes many accidents on the streets. When it become a habit, people are rushing from one thing to another, trying to finish everything as fast as possible even during the weekends.
Unless you are lucky to be a in a position where your have people at your beck and call, you are carried away in this fast pace of life, building up stress at work, stress in school, stress at home. All this adds up to abnormal behavior pattern in city life and takes a toll on our health and our minds.
Everyone has to find his own way of coping with the mad rush of life in which we are caught up. There are many ways to calm down and relax. You can spend a lazy hour all by yourself to unwind after a hectic day, listening to music, keeping yourself occupied doing things you like to do at home. Or, you can choose to be with someone enjoying a drink, talking about anything, cracking jokes and letting the conversation to drift from one thing to another.
There are also proven relaxation techniques like TM (transcendental meditation), facial, foot and body massage but how many people can really have enough time or money for them?
The answer is that we are all vaguely aware of the faster pace of life but we are not doing enough to find a practical way to cope with it.

In todays American culture it's in to be charismatic, constantly on the go, a multi-tasker, etc. These things help make more money. A lot of people are more into that and rarely take the time to slow down, relax, and enjoy the moments.

Too many people adhere to the saying "Life is short", so they live like they always have to be doing something to be productive. In reality, life is the longest thing a human will experience; I don't know what all the rush is about!

everything is gear to immediate gratification. Better, faster, new and improved. People are pushed to get more done than the day before. Under the circumstances they can't calm down and relax
