The comedian Richard Jeni asks why do we have parades to celebrate the way people like to get laid?
When did people's sex lives become acceptable for public discussion?
Our private lives should be exactly that, private.

I have to agree with Chris. I didn't make my private life political. it's the bigots who keep passing/trying to pass laws that prevent me from having rights or take them away that makes me more political. it's people who think I'm less of a person simply because of who I love that makes me political. this applies to a lot of other minorities as well...racial, religious, cultural. there have been many laws over the years that have been over-turned that people fought against because the were not fair. people denied rights because they weren't white, weren't Christian, weren't male. and then the current administration comes along and tries to set us back a few decades. sure, Mr President...your attempt to force your religious beliefs upon the laws of this country might have rattled some bigots out of the closet and got them to amend many state constitutions to legalize discrimination....but what good did that do? that on top of many other of your failed policies got fair-minded people riled up and voted out a bunch of your cronies last month. now for the next 2 years you have less allies. how's that make you feel, President Bigot?

As you can see Chris24 and others have correctly answered your question.
Sexual preference should NOT be an issue-it is private to all people.
Being born this way and having to deal with bigoted people is not easy-especially when some have been killed because of it.
Please try to put that shoe on your foot and you will know what we mean.

When there is Liberty and Justice for All, it will stop being political. As long as the bigotry continues to kill and wound, people will fight for survival and rights. These lame state constitution amendments that deny equal rights make the political fight continue all the stronger.

Yes it is our "own business", but some people made it political by wanting to continue to let gay people to be fired from their jobs for the sole reason of being gay, wanting to continue to let gay people be denied an apartment or mortgage for the sole reason that they are gay, wanting to continue to let gay people to not have any say at the hospital when their lifelong partner becomes ill because they are not immediate family, wanting to continue to let gay people lose their jointly owned homes if a partner dies because they were not spouses...
Gay people didn't make it political, the people who say that gay people shouldn't have the same rights as straight people are the ones who made it political. All gay people are doing is fighting back when they are told that they don't deserve the same rights just because they are gay.

When my sexual preference causes me to be a second class citizen, it gives me the right to make it political.

The fact that people want to make it legal for us to be killed for loving each other makes it political. If we had equal rights, then it wouldn't be a political issue.

Chris nailed that one quite well.
It became political when others used it as justification to harass and discriminate.
