Yup. Each year. They think it belongs to them :D My cat loves to drink the water, too... So cute. He practically lives in that tree. Anyway, try not to place the handpainted ornaments at the bottom of the tree, that's the only advice I can give you...

Yeah i think its natural... cats like trees. It depends on the cats though really... if you have a younger or playful cat its more likely to attack a tree. one of my cats has been caught In the tree everyday since I put it up and the other cat just batted at a few ornaments the first night then he got over it. So, I guess it depends on the cat.. oh and avoid flashing lights keeping them either steady on or all off tends to be helpful

Put the tree back up without the decorations. Every time the kitty gets near give her a good spray in the face with some water. Simply yelling at her is not enough. Cats are smart and will learn with negative reinforcement. You need to be a lot stricter because one day kitty will bite through the electrical cords and fry herself to a crisp!! I would rather have my kitty scared of the tree and still be alive.

Yeah, my cat is almost a year old and this is she first christmas.(she was born in Jan) and She is finding the tree to be a very fun toy. But don't worry, my older cat was like that the first christmas, but you just need to teach her that it's wrong to play with the tree and next christmas, she's be fine.

why oh why did we get a new kitten just before the Festive Season?.....lol
we dont put the christmas tree up till this weekend but we already have the water spray bottle in action....so far the kitten has decided that it is NOT a fun idea to climb into the indoor plants, or climb up the curtains or sharpen his claws on the speakers
the water spray does the trick really well ...cats HATE it
Get a spray bottle or water pistol then sit back and enjoy your Christmas Tree

One fall the tiniest little kitten showed up at my parent's door. They were feeding her with an eye dropper at first. Underweight and just a couple months old, she climbed up the tree, and down it went. My father tied the top of the tree to a ceiling hook, it was OK after that.
It is quite nateral for cats to climb a tree, they are not trying to distroy anything, they are just being themselves. Of course the decorations are fun toys to them. You might want to re-think your decorating, or keep the cats in another room.

Play with it, hide under it, munch on it, climb up it and knock off the ornaments. I had a three year period when I couldn't put any ornaments near the bottom of the tree because my cat would knock them off and/or break them. They think it is a big giant playground.

Of course!! I do not have cats, but I do have a eight-month old Golden Retriever, it has been a lot of years since I had a puppy in the house. Last night she came up to me chewing on a GLASS Christmas ball, thank God I got it away from her in time, talk about a quick trip to the emergency vet!! Be patient, those cats are living things, the tree is not. Find joy in their playfulness. Watch to be sure they are not eating harmful things.

Mine don't try to destroy my tree but they do like chewing on the lights and knocking the ornaments off and batting them around the house.

Yes, my cats love to destroy the christmas tree, sometimes I come home to it nocked over. The first two years was bad...you tent to not use glass ornaments anymore I also try the squirt gun method...when they are in the tree squirt them with water they'll learn the tree means getting wet and wont screw with it to much.
