I am trying to do a speech about Pride as a "Sin", whats tough is that i don't necessarily believe in pride being a sin even though it is described as one. I already have the jest of what the religious people think of when they think of pride, but i am trying to dissect what the media thinks about it. And when im talking about pride, im not talking about a race pride or sexual orientation pride, i am talking about self pride. Anyone have any examples or suggestions as to why or how the media portrays "pride"?

I think they mean pride to the point of arrogance.

Just yesterday there was news about the former President Bush being moved to tears with being proud of how his son deals with both winning and losing. News people talked about how parents are often so proud of their children they get moved to tears.

The media often shows lack of pride, as in the case of Brittany Speares showing "her business" without underwear and then later showing her pink underwear.

It shows what lack of pride looks like when it shows up on a talk show in the form of a drunk guest.

It shows what lack of pride looks like when people on television try to think up the most shocking and vulgar things to say rather than in showing some dignity.

Whenever news covers service-people who fight in or return from war it usually talks about how proud most people are of those service-people.

When something like the Ronald Reagan funeral took place, and it was done very tastefully; the media touched upon a certain type of national pride in how things are done. When the nation has the peaceful transfer of power from one person to another the media talks about a source of national pride in the fact that our country has such an orderly and peaceful transfer of power.

Shows that show people airing their most personal problems on television don't do much for those people's pride I think there's a certain type of lack of pride in shows like Extreme Make-Over where people with horrible and sad circumstances are put on display as victims; while the well-intentioned ABC staff gets to do all kinds of nice things for the family (with the price being some of that family's pride).

Pride is a sin because they both have "I" in the middle.
