Racism is alive and well in the US but there are a lot of people here fighting it also.
For many Americans, some black people are seen positively and some negatively...depending on their attitude. About the same as how white people are seen.
In general, many people here still blame black people for social wrongs...promiscuity, prostitution, drugs, violence...ect. Everyone needs someone to blame and black people have been the culprit for a long time...tradition is a hard thing to change.
White people in the US seem to find it hard to believe that a white person could ever be the root of something evil. We're still battling archaic attitudes.

There are MANY positives black role models in the USA, just as there are many negative ones. The same can be said with Hispanic, Caucasian, Asian, Middle Eastern, Native American, the list is as limitless as the number of races. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (cliche, I know). I see beauty in all races. It's the morons (for lack of a better word) who give a certain race a bad name.

by most people i believe they are seen positively. but there are always those select people who choose to be racist butt heads. and on the other had there are those few African Americana's out there who give a bad name to everyone else. some people will base there opinions by all the negative things they see in the news. i would go as far as saying that the media is guilty of portraying African Americans negatively

It depends on who you ask. I think many of the african americans who live in the usa are looked down at, but many do not deserve that treatment in my opinion. Some AA are seen as positive, though, such as community leader and thoses who are still fighting for equal rights.
