Can you be punk/goth and still have a happy personality sometimes? It seems to be the opposite. I want to dress kinda goth/punk, but not sure if I should.

Be a goth. Goths are funny. You can't possibly be a goth and not have a sense of humour. Goths who take it too seriously are a bit silly. My wife used to be a goth and she's a hoot.

You can be any darn thing you want. You can be a punk or goth and still be happy. I've been a happy punk for a long time.

If you want to be a punk, you should at least have some of the social and moral beliefs that go with it. Being anti-war, anti-racism, and willing to make a stink for your beliefs.

If you just want to dress goth and listen to Sisters of Mercy go for it. You might see if you like the band Bauhaus as well. If not, maybe goth isn't for you.

You should look like whatever makes you feel good. My constantly shifting hair and cosmetics isn't a statement of mindset- it's a statement of fondness for bright colors. You sound young- now is the time to have fun with your appearance, before you get a job that says your blacklight responsive haircolor has to go.

If you don't want to be considered a poser, though, you might go punk- but do it with a political mindset. The original punks weren't depressed all the time- they just saw injustice in the world and tried to fix it through noise. I mean listen to the Clash- is that music for depressed people? Even the Sex Pistols wasn't music for depressed people. Angry, sure, but there's a difference.

You also don't have to be unstable to be a goth. It helps, but isn't an absolute requirement. Cultivate an interest in vampires, the victorian era, paganism, historical reenactment, science fiction, or darkwave music, and that ought to do it. If the baby bats think you're a poser, the elders will likely defend you.

I think so. well.. punks are rebels, aren't they? Not sure. I think Goth's just a style of dress/architecture/whatev though. I don't think you have to act a certain way to be a Goth, just like morbid things and wear a lot of gothic clothes..? Again, not sure. :P I think it's a matter of opinion really.

Go ahead and dress punk/goth if you want, but if you say to everyone, "Oh, I'm a punk/goth/whatever", you'll probably get labelled as a wannabe and get a lot of people to hate you.. or at least you would if you went to my school.

Dress and act how you want, don't feel you have to be a certain way to conform to a stereotype. Unless you want to, that is ;P

I am very goth and I love it. A lot of depressed people take up being goth to draw attention to themselves. It's their choice and there are worse things to do. A lot of goths and punks are really jolly happy people (who like black clothes) and believe me there is a lot of fun to be had with the right people.
You don't have to listen to the music or live the lifestyle to wear the clothes - the clothes are cool enough to wear just because you like them. Being a goth or a punk is no excuse to become misable and the two don't go together hand in hand.
Look at Maylin Manson - he dresses goth but is happily married and has a good life. And Ozzy Osbourne - he's quite goth but he loves his kids and his wife, they seem like a happy enough family.

Anyway do what you want to, enjoy what you do, and don't hurt anyone and you will get on fine as a punk, as a goth, as a hippy, aas a business woman, as an emo, as a trendy, or whatever.

Have fun!

Goths are awesome. I have a lot of friends who are and they are the most funniest and coolest people I know. That is a huge misconception of punk/ goths. For the most part, they are happy people. They dress the way they do as a form of expression and plus they like it. Hey dress however you feel.

dressing like a punk/goth doesn't mean their not happy, most of them are trying to hide from other people or their feelings, but most of them are happy even if it isn't al of the time. everyone has their good moments. im a punk/goth and quite dark and depressed but even i still have happy moments. and anyway punk/goths can't tel you if you can or can't be happy just because of the way you dress.
you go for it. you never know you might mke a new treand. lol

I love the punk/goth look but with it's overtones of death and destruction a happy Goth does tend to look as weird as a smiling undertaker. But what the hell, if you were worried about what other people think of you you wouldn't want to be a Punk/Goth. Do it, be happy and f**k what people think of you.

The way you dress and the way you act may be totally different. it you dress goth, maybe you just don't like bright colours but you can still be a happy person. It's just a style, you dress how ever you want to. But don't label yourself, or let others label you just because you like to dress differently than them.
