I have a 55 gallon with 2 oscars, a pletco, and a silver tip shark. What should I plant in the tank, and what is it going to do to the tank ballance, what is required for caring for plants?

they might, but be careful of the plants you choose..some cause more harm than good.

Yes, plants will help turn nitrites into less toxic nitrates. However, they won't fix any existing problems. So, if you don't clean your tank, adding plants will not clean your tank.

Please know that your tank is far too small for the fish you have. Oscars are very big fish and should have 60 gallons for EACH oscar. Two would be okay in a 100 gallon ,but no less.
You plecostomous (what you wall a pletco) will grow to 18-24" and will require 40 gallons to itself.
A silver tip shark does not exist. I'm assuming you mean the Irridescent Shark? These will reach a length of 40 inches and should be kept in a 100 gallon, NOT with oscars. Adults oscars would terrorize a placid irridescent.

Please look into upgrading your tanks or getting some more appropriate fish for your tanks.

I don't have much to say, because we had our fish when I was eight, but we had plants that required virtually no care. They got their nutrients from the fish excrements.
