I'm a Marylinder thats gotten around..
Try being from Maryland and living in Nawth Carolina, It was fun for only about the first 100 times someone asked me if I was from the north and called me a Yankee.
Had to the give the explination of what made a southern state (south of the mason dixon line) Which happens to run between maryland and Pennsylvania. Making MD a southern state.
Living in Georgia it was more widely accepted and I was never asked the 2 years I lived there.
Now I have been in Texas for 5 years and occasionally people will ask where my accent is from, when I tell them MD they just say ahh that explains it, its not too north and not to south.
It is sad that some people can still judge by how we talk.

No, I don't think so. I was talking to a friend who visited the South, and he said that he went to a park and there was a sign that said 'black go back'. I have never seen anything like that in New England, and I would be offended and take the sign down myself. There are a few places all over the world in both the North that give all northerners a bad name and some places down south that give southerners a bad name. Travel to some more places up North and you'll find out we are just as friendly as the South, don't close your mind towards us yet!

Blackmamba... the KKK is NOT an accurate image of the south. I have always lived in the south and have NEVER seen a hooded KKK member. Maine in an interesting area. The people tend to be VERY honest. Also, they dont act all warm and fuzzy but will do something for you if needed. I have friends that just moved him from Maine a few months ago. They are a very honest about everything. My friend and I talk about the North vs. the South all the time. He tends to not care too much for rednecks but he finds southerners nice.

I don't think the south is the new north I'm from Maryland and i don't feel like i live in the south (I live close to DC) but while the south might be more friendly I don't think they are more tolerant then northern people (it all probably amounts to the same thing)

Well I'm originally from Mississippi, the people there are friendly enough,I have been as far North as New Jersey on the East Coast. People were nice there too! I've lived in Tn,Ga,Va and here in NC,visited Texas and Fla.-the people in the coal mine areas of Va were rather cold, wouldn't even look at you.
My cousins use to come down and visit us in Ms. from Michigan-they were sooo funny we all made fun of each others accents-'dem Yankees LOL !
My advice would be to stay in the South--*smile*

No, I would assume that you just coincidentally met two or more people who had a predilection for those who didn't live in Maryland, only because they probably haven't ever visited Maryland.

Dont ever compare the north to God's country. I dont know what you mean by new south but the north is not the new south or old south or anything. Northern people are arogant, rude, irresponsible and self centered. The reason the south is a far better place to live is because for hundreds of years they have been taking care of their own and raising their families reponsibly. Difference between a yankee and damn yankee is that a yankee goes the fu** home.

I don't think anyone should hate anyone just because of where they are from. If they do they are very small minded.
