The parachute and the paratroop unit saw it's first successful use.
The aircraft carrier was implemented far more effectively than in previous wars, and surpassed the battleship as the most valuable ship in a navy's fleet.
The flamethrower came of age as an anti-infantry weapon.
Machines to encode/decode communications were invented (ie the German Enigma machine).
Countless other technologies were either invented or improved as well.
