I guess it depends on the genre you want. I think on of the most recognizable songs ever is The Star Spangled banner. How about Amazing Grace? Then there is Old time rock and roll by Bob Seger. So many people have so many ideas about good and best and most popular. And then there are all those songs we learned as children.Itsy Bitsy Spider, Mary had a little lamb, Those that create wonderful memories. And Christmas songs are some of the most remembered songs ever...

No, I would have to say:

A. Children's songs like Happy Birthday, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, etc.

B. Christmas songs like Rudolph, Silent Night, etc.

No top-of the charts pop songs beat those. Not even songs by giants like The Beatles and Elvis are better known than common Kids' and Christmas songs.

I challenge you to take every "popular" song people mention here, including "Imagine" and "Bohemian Rhapsody," and ask lots of people (not just your friends at school) if they've heard of them and if they can sing the lyrics. Then ask them if they've heard of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" or "Rudolph." Can you guess what the results will be?

Most classical music is considered great, like Fur Elise by Mozart. 7th symphony by Beethoven. Though more modern ones I would have to say Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. Sweet Melissa by the Allman Brothers Band. Crossroads by Eric Clapton. Texas Flood and Pride&Joy by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Heartbreaker by Grand Funk Railroad. Daughters by John Mayor. Freebird by Lynard Skynard. Can't You See by The Marshall Tucker Band. Green Grass and High Tides by the Outlaws, La Grange by ZZ Top, and We Are the Champions by Queen.
