I remember this was made into a record by Les Crane in 1971.
excellent words, and I definitely think the world would be a better place if more of us could live by this philosophy.

Yes, Desiderata is one of the greatest, most poignant things ever written. But who is Max Ehrmann? On my copy of it, it says that it's from the middle ages, writer unknown.
Edit. I looked it up and I'm in shock! I thought the most impressive thing about Desiderata was that it was so relevant it could have been written yesterday. Now I find out it was! Ah well, it's still brilliant.

"Desiderata", though fairly short, is packed full of wisdom, applicable to any society or era. I particularly appreciate the lines,
"Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit."..... so apt in modern media and society in general!

Go placidly amid noise and haste.... A wonderful meditation. It is unfortunatly a poor combination of true wisdom and pure smaltz. But, I still like it.

It's a nice little creed in so far as anyone can sum up their beliefs on one page.

I heard that it was written on a gravestone then used for a song.
It's origin is not clear.
