Movies "Are" HD already. It is the television resolution that is trying to catch up with the resolution that film has had all along when they went to HDTV. Watch a real movie and you are watching HD. HD is simply short for "High Definition" and until very recently film was the HIgh Definition standard which is why ti took so long for digital to catch on with professional photographers. Now if you are talking about better resolution thatn that????? We need more technology! :-) The grains of resolution in film, at least until very recently, was of a higher resolution than the "pixels" of a digital image. Also gave a wider contrast ratio as well.

They've actually just worked all that out between the theatres and the movie studios. It seems the movie studios will fork over the money to replace the projectors with 'Digital Projectors' (as was done with Star Wars:Attack Of The Clones'). Digital projection will have the capability for High Definition. The costly part at the moment is for the movie to actually be 'filmed' with HD Cameras to take full advantage of the technology. An older film can be 'shown' in HD, even though it wasn't filmed in HD, but for 1080p it would need to be filmed in HD or they could only show it as 720p. Can't wait though!
