Duplo or MegaBlocks sets (for the pre-school children), a tricycle, big clunky toy trucks, Thomas the Tank Engine things, a New Blankie -- slippers of the current cartoon characters, new pajamas, there are so many possibilities -- including some of the big pieces puzzles and coloring books too.

At this age, the child is MORE interested in letting his imagination go and will most likely play with the wrapping paper, the ribbons, and the boxes MORE than the fanciest toy you can find -- so make the papers fun -- there are some out there where the child can then use it as coloring papers -- so try that too.

I have a little boy who just turned 2. He received many expensive toys from relatives. The Buzz Light year is in the toy-box un-used the ride on electric car has been ridden once or twice..The winner is the Thomas train track with trains. I bought these in a backpack for $29.95aus from Big W. The trains have magnets to attach the carriages or other trains in the series. Other items that he loves are little people stuff that go together or blocks, (he loves to join things), Books or matchbox cars. There are so many of these things of different prices so maybe you can mix it up. Try to keep it simple and age appropriate. The toys that he is not interested in were not designed for his age.

Oh gosh the possibilities are limitless if he's just 2! A stuffed animal, duplo blocks, (giant leggos) puzzle with big pieces, there are all kinds of things you can get him for way under 40 bucks.
He's at the age where the box might be more interesting than the toys!

You can get some decent Matchbox or Hot Wheels sets for that. My son liked cars, trains and trucks at that age. Thomas the Train sets are usually expensive. A nice lights and sounds dump truck would be fun.

Good luck!

my 2 year old loves blocks, cars, balls, riding toys (pushing foot powdered) and some tents we bought at Ross, pop up tents that can be folded down and stored behind couch or under the bed. Look at playskool products lots of cool looking toys that kids like with ages written on the package most very affordable.
