For me math is very easy, I requested from my math teacher last year that she sign off on letting me have honors math for the next year. She said no becuase I only had a 90% in the class and you have to have 96% or higher to go onto geometry honors. I told her that I didn't even study for her class, but she still said no. Now, I'm stuck in regular Geometry with a 100% and I spend most off class doodling on my folder. Next year I will take Algebra 2/ Trig. and I want to know if you think that someone with a 100% in geometry that doesn't even study for the class should go into honors math for the next year? If my teacher says no to honors math again for me should I have my mom override my teachers decision?

I think the reason that I did not do so well in Algebra is becuase I always made dumb mistakes when doing problems on tests. For example I would make the mistake of saying that 5+3=15 or 36-16=10. This hurt me alot. Some other reaesons could be...

If you only had a 90% and a 96% was required, your teacher simply not have been allowed to recommend you. Every honors class has to have a cut-off somewhere.
My question to you is this - if you are so good, why did you get a 90%? Did you give a 100% effort to the class? Some of the smartest students can get a little lazy because they are easily bored and take the subject lightly. Then when a test comes along, they are not prepared and do not perform up to their potential.
Keep that high average you have going now. Show interest and motivation. Ask the teacher for extra work. If she still says no, ask your mom to intervene.
Have you spoken to your guidance counselor yet? They may be able to help you.
Good luck!

You may have "sunk" your own lifeboat by not studying. My daughter is the same way. Once upon a time, when students transferred in from other districts, they were "under-placed" and moved into advanced classes by teachers who saw my sevweral easy 100s in a row. I doubt if they do that any more. Private school is best and home schooling best of all. My daughter had to put up with a lot of "knotheads" in her schools that disrupted class, did not try. Hang tough in public school, read everything you can get your hands on, do all extra credit, and who knows...maybe a nice several scholarships for college? Anyway...I regret I didn't study more...but cannot turn back the clock to my youth. I lost out on opportunities because I did not study enough.

Report this to the principal and have her *** fired for doing that. You really deserve to be in Honors Geometry since you proved that you do really good in that class. That teacher has absolutely no right to hold you back of wanting to take an honors class.

It's a shame that there would be teachers that would actually discourage students from taking more challenging courses. Get your mom to override the teacher if she can do it. I'm not sure what your teacher's problem is, but she's stuck in something somewhere, that's for sure.

I am an 11th grader in pre-calc right now and i can tell you that if you are dood at math you are good at math, study or not. your teacher should have put you in a higher level, see if you can switch up when second semeter begins.

Hi. You don't get something for nothing. As a math person you of all people should understand this. Get some pre-calculus books and try to challenge yourself.

If its a battling situation, I'l knock them first If its a polite situation, i'd be polite to them and tell them what's precise. yet most of the time i only use common sense. :) @lost. ok convey it on!!! loooool

Dude go to the principal or guidance counselor

They're holding your knowledge back and not challenging you if they don't let you take honors

Just think if you actually studied last year, you could have been in honors math right now. You have no one to blame but yourself.

If your mother can do so, yes, and ideally would have done so to prevent your present pickle. Your teacher is not cool.
