I heard it costs.

Go get a book by nolo on how to do it. It isn't hard and if you go when the court is slow you might get some help from the court clerk. They know everything and can be helpful but can't give advice.
You have to publish in a paper but call around to get a cheaper paper. You can get a fee wavier for the court if you have a low income. You can go to the court to buy the forms- in California it was 43 cents for me. It is a very easy thing to do and I had attorneys the whole time trying to charge me $200 to do the forms I was filling out. Good Luck and really try the nolo book- they are great for everything.

You need to petition the Court. Call the Clerk of Court and he/she will more than likely have a standardized for you can file with the Court. You also need to publish your intent with a local newspaper. Then after about 2 months the Court will have a hearing and will determine your petition and the reasons behind it. If there are no objections, and if your reasoning is logical, the Court will more than likely grant your request of name change.

It costs but you can do it on a McDonalds based wage an to do so,if your 18 and over, just go to your local Social Security office. They can helop you out greatly.Or just join the navy seals.lol
