John Lennon was a member of the Beatles along with Paul McCartney, George Harrison (also deceased), and Ringo Starr. John Lennon was killed outside his New York apartment by a fan named Mark David Chapman, This fan believed that he himself was actually John Lennon so he killed the real John Lennon. After he pulled the trigger he stood calming by and waited for the police to arrive while reading the Catcher in the Rye.

He put together a band (Johnny & The Moondogs), predecessor of The Beatles with Paul McCartney, (late) George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. After The Beatles broke up in 1970, he moved to New York City with his second wife Yoko Ono, and became a househusband for 7 years in seclusion. On December 8, 1980, while returning from the recording studio with Yoko, he was gunned down on the steps of his apartment building The Dakota by Mark Chapman, a mentally ill fan who believed himself to be John Lennon and did not want the world to have "two John Lennons." He was arrested and subsequently charged and is institutionalized.
